Can I tell you how glad I am to be home?
May 21, 2007Travelling is so stressful — especially when it’s to someplace that you’ve not been to before, but where everyone else knows exactly where they are going. The flights were fine — it’s not the flying but the take off and landing that I don’t like. But we landed without incident, probably because I was sitting in my seat pushing my feet through the floor on imaginary brake pedals to make the plane stop. I also assist the pilot getting the plane off the ground and up to the correct altitude by concentrating so intently. I do so envy people who can sit down, tip their heads back and fall asleep. I’m too busy diligently listening for every little nuance in the sound of the engine to relax.
But all of that aside, we four ladies had a great time. We had workshops all day Saturday then changed up quickly and went out to dinner at a Mexican restaurant in Atlanta called Garcia’s — just a little hole in the wall place — and boy do they make a mean Margarita!! We were lucky enough to be staying at a hotel that provided shuttle service to anywhere within a 5 mile radius of the hotel, so we were able to imbibe a bit more than usual and not worry. We were advised by a flight attendant on the way down to ask for white cheese dipping sauce which I guess is a southern thing — ask for it, it’s fabulous with tortilla chips.
The only blip in the whole trip was that I lost my sunglasses. Granted, I work for an optometrist and we do have a very generous eyewear program — but now I have to go into work tomorrow and tell my friend the optician that I left them on a table at the airport. These were relatively new — I lost my last new pair (6 days old) at Matunuck Beach in RI last summer and got all kinds of teasing for that. I’m sure this time will be even worse!! I hate to say it, but I think it’s getting to be the time when I need some “granny chains” to keep my glasses on my person.
